Description

Cover for the spanish and italian PC edition of "Death to Spies Anthology" by FX Interactive. www.fxinteractive.com/p405/

I have always a delightful passion for stealth games, the kind of games where you have to wait minutes, crouching behind a corner or a dark passage, watching the guards' rounds to sneak or ambush them without being noticed. So, since I discovered the existence of this title in early 2007 (I played the first demo in russian) I tracked it and proposed for editing by FX. Unable to publish it at that time, FX had to wait until 2011 to get the rights.

When the FX edition began, I had a very clear idea of how I wish it were the cover. I would focus on the main character that you play in the game, giving it a tough attitude and arrogant hero resemblance. I wanted to emphasize the fact that you ought to use disguises to infiltrate in the game, making he were taking off his german uniform while the facilities he sabotaged burst into flames behind him. I wanted to show that sense of action and adventure that the James Bond's films have and also give it the strength of the movie poster of " Inglourious basterds". I prepared a sketch with this idea, but the marketing department wanted another approach. The cover with which went out "Death to Spies: Gold Edition " was more conceptual, more like a spy novel.

This was my first illustration for a cover on FX. It is more an exercise of composition and photo-retouch that an illustration. The result was very good and I'm proud of it but I was not the idea I have developed first. I thought to finish the prior illustration at home, but it was one of those pictures with such a lot of detail that will take me so many hours to finish that I finally only did the part of the car exploding and the german soldier running .

The opportunity to finish it came when FX get the rights of the second part of the game: "Death to Spies: Moment of Thruth " and decided to make a bundle with both games. "Moment of thuth" had two of the best missions in the game : one in a german airfiled and another at a submarine base. I kept my original idea but remove many parts of the previous sketch. I redo the face and uniform, kept the pose of the arms and legs. From background I only saved the car because it was already done. I held the idea of burning Nazi flags, but I merged it with the new background. The airfield and the submarine base was made from screenshots of the game, I had already played those missions so I knew which were the scenes I wanted to show. "Death to Spies" has been the most personal project I've been dedicated in FX Interactive, in which I put all my passion. It has always been a game in whose edition I wished to participate since the moment I know the game.

Apart from the two illustrations, I also make the logos and design their dvd's box covers.
